Structure Determines Function

The way your body is put together affects how well it works. When everything is in its proper position, things work as they should. When your car is properly aligned, it cruises down the road smoothly and comfortably. But when parts get misaligned or out of place, you’ll start hearing funny noises coming from your car—or clicking in your back.

There are 24 bones in your spine, which rest on the foundation of your hips and pelvis. Those 24 movable parts protect your nervous system, which connects your brain to your body and controls your ability to do everything, like breathe, produce hormones or ride a bicycle. When any of those movable parts gets stuck out of place, it’s called a subluxation, which is essentially a misalignment of the spine that puts pressure on the nerve.

Chiropractors use specific adjustments to realign the spine, removing that pressure and interference from the nervous system, so your body can work as intended, to the best of its ability.

Pain is not the only symptom of dysfunction, but usually the first one people pay attention to. By the time you experience pain, you’ve probably had subluxations for a while. That means it will take some time for your body to accept the new alignment as the correct one. The first two to four weeks of care are the most critical in helping your body hold the adjustments so healing can begin from within.

Of course, we’d love to see you before you’re in pain, to help you avoid getting to that stage. Chiropractic is excellent at optimizing performance in sports, as well as helping patients of all ages live healthier, more active lives.
